Is It Worth It For You ?
For years I’ve been focusing on creating my own products and did not appreciate the idea of selling other people’s products. But creating my own products takes a lot of market research to follow the right idea, and even more time and money to actually build the product.
When there are so many high quality products out there, why not take advantage of this by promoting some of them to people who can greatly benefit from those products. By doing this, you will be serving both the person who buys the product from your site and also the product vendor who created the product.
To show their appreciation to you for driving more sales their way, the product vendor/company will reward you with a commission for every unit of the product that gets sold from your website. So this is all the way a WIN-WIN for everyone concerned.
Is the Customer Paying More ?
The product price is always the same whether someone buys it via your affiliate link or if they directly go to the product website and buy the product. So to answer your question, no, the customer does not pay anymore than what they would pay for the product directly from the vendor. Plus they have the added benefit of all your product research and reviews to make an informed purchase decision.
For many years, I did not understand this fact and often wondered if affiliate marketing meant I would be cheating the customer by having them pay more via an affiliate link. So until very recently, I did not consider getting into affiliate marketing myself. At the end of the day, I truly want to deliver value to my customer or website visitor and the thought that I might be making them pay more kept me away from this industry. But that was simply my misunderstanding and I’m glad that got cleared away!
You are doing a lot of research and informing your site visitor on the best, high quality products in that field/ domain. You’re saving them time and money which they would otherwise spend by visiting stores, and you are protecting them from purchasing the wrong products.
In return for your time and effort, and the trust the customer has in you, they are choosing to buy the recommended product through your affiliate link. They would pay the same amount for this product and they are not being charged anymore for clicking through your affiliate link. So this is a 3-way win-win situation, win for the customer, win for you as the affiliate, and a win for the product vendor.
Does it require Technical skills ?
Nowadays you can easily create and manage a WordPress website without any technical skills whatsoever. You just need to follow the hosting provider’s instructions and occasionally contact their support if you run into any issues.
There are platforms other than WordPress too, but I always prefer WordPress because it is perfect both for beginners and professionals alike. It is by far the most popular and easiest platform to setup a blogging website on. A website blog will allow you to write useful and engaging content for your readers whereby you recommend good quality products and you could display a few ads and provide other services perhaps via email subscriptions.
Don’t worry at this point about how to go about placing ads, how to create an email subscription and so on. I will be getting into all of those things one-by-one in future posts. For now, just know that you need zero technical knowledge to setup and manage your own income-generating website.
Everything you need to manage your website is built into all of these platforms and all you need to do is to click the right buttons or options and contact support if something is unclear or not working as you expected.
What are the Upfront Costs ?
Bluehost and SiteGround (and many other services) provide WordPress hosting for less than $5 per month. In the beginning as you’re getting started, this is sufficient and there is no need to pay more in the start. As your site gains more traffic and you’re making money with the affiliate links, that is a good time to consider upgrading to a higher plan.
In case you want more help and training, another option is to choose a monthly plan with Wealthy Affiliate. The key advantage with Wealthy Affiliate is that it combines many useful features all in one subscription so that you don’t have to pay for anything else for managing your website.
You can start with their free plan and upgrade to a paid plan of $49/month if you decide you want more training and help with the site. This is certainly not mandatory and you can always go through our site and then sign up for a low-cost hosting provider such as SiteGround or Bluehost.
Here are some of important services Wealthy Affiliate offers as part of the paid monthly plan:
- Complete internet marketing training
- High-end web hosting platform with security, speed and additional tools

Create Website The Easy Way
To create an affiliate website, all you need is a domain and a web hosting account that supports WordPress, preferably a WordPress hosting which can automatically install and manage WordPress for you. My suggestion for you is to choose a WordPress.org-recommended hosting provider such as SiteGround or Bluehost or the all-in-one Wealthy Affiliate platform. All of these providers have a long history of expertise with WordPress.
After signing up, choose a one-click install to setup a new website. Prior to this, you will be required to either register a new domain with them, or choose a free sub domain for getting started with your website. Registering your own domain may incur a yearly charge of about $15/yr.
In case you initially go with the sub domain route, you can easily move it to your own domain later on. This is done with the WordPress Migrator tool in SiteGround and with the Site Manager – Move tool in Wealthy Affiliate.
Both of these are automated tools and just require one or more clicks to migrate the website to another domain. Bluehost provides a similar Site Transfer service that is handled directly by their support team.

Affiliate Network Programs
There are a number of large affiliate networks such as Commission Junction, ShareASale, LinkShare and ClickBank. These provide affiliate programs from many product and service vendors in one single interface. After signing up, you can request to be part of a particular vendor’s affiliate program by submitting a request.
You will be asked to enter your website location and describe more details about your site and how you will be driving traffic and promoting their products. After this there will be an approval process after which you will be given access to the affiliate links which will have your affiliate id.
Then whenever you promote their products, you can provide affiliate links so that your site visitors can easily access the product details and make a purchase via your affiliate link. Once customers purchase via your link, the affiliate network and the product vendor will give you a commission for bringing in the sale.
The commissions are clearly listed for each product and they can be anywhere between 5% to about 60% of the purchase price of the product. So as you can see, these can very easily add up to a lot of commissions as you sell multiple products from different affiliate programs and networks. This is a much better way to make online income that painstakingly creating products of your own, or having your own product inventory, stocking/ storing physical products and so on.
With the affiliate networks, you will get a single online payment or check for all product commissions you earn via that network. There are also many companies that have their own affiliate programs that are not part of any affiliate networks. Large online stores such as Amazon or Walmart or even smaller ones might have their own programs.
In this case, you will sign up to each affiliate program directly with the product or store company and will get one payment or commission from every such affiliate program.
As you can see, affiliate marketing requires very little upfront costs. All you need to pay for is a web hosting and register a domain. If you need it, you can also sign up for an internet marketing training, or just follow along with us at MoneyAllMyLife to learn all you need to know about making income with affiliate marketing on your own website.
The sky is the limit once the income starts rolling in! In the initial months as you build out your website and write content, just be a little patient as each of your blog posts starts to get indexed and ranked in Google, Bing and Yahoo search engines.
Until your blog posts start to rank in the 1st three pages of Google for a search term or keyword, it is best to skip adding the affiliate links. This will help your post to rank better on the more top search results when posted without the affiliate links. Then as your page moves up in ranking in Google, you can insert all your affiliate links, and with the added traffic from the search engines, there will be opportunities for making good sales and commissions.
